Leo holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and in 1975 he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Leo worked for a large national CA firm prior to opening his own practice in 1979.
Leo was elected to the Chartered Accountants Governing Council in 1992 culminating as President in 1997-98. In 1997, Leo was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants, the profession's highest designation.
Nationally, Leo has participated in the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and the Small Business Practice Forum, and has also represented Alberta on the CICA's Vision Task Force.
Concurrently, Leo served on the Province of Alberta's Committee on Tax Review.
Leo has also made time to service his community, where he has volunteered with the Canadian Diabetes Assocition, Westchester Citizens Committee, Crime Stoppers, Crowchild Hockey Association, Alberta Amateur Referees Association, and the Cal 90 Business Club.
In 2001 Leo was part of a Canadian expedition to Mt. Everest.
